I am most disturbed to hear of the changes proposed as part of Bill 108.
Essentially returning to the old OMB system is a step backward in my opinion. There is a reason why the OMB was abolished. It was heavily skewed in favour of developers and overrode local concerns. What good is it for a town or region to come up with an official growth plan or zoning only to have it overridden by an opaque, appointed body that favours "development" over everything? It undermines their authority and encourages people to disregard local law enforcement.
This new system will disallow third-party, non-profit appeals on certain matters. How else are local groups supposed to voice their opinions? This idea that "we-can-do-anything-we-want-to-you--and-your-environment-and-everything-else-and-you-can't-do-anything-back" is wrong.
