This proposal is an unacceptable compromise that the people of Ontario should not accept.
The first objective of parks is: To permanently protect representative ecosystems, biodiversity and provincially significant elements of Ontario’s natural and cultural heritage and to manage these areas to ensure that ecological integrity is maintained. The first principle in planning and management is ecological integrity.
How can allowing these leases to continue on this SIGNIFICANT piece of property be considered? The government already set the date...December 31, 2017 is the end of the leases. Why would the this government change its mind? For 287 families that have a private priviledge? What about the rest of the people of Ontario who 'own' our parks? What about all of the species at risk (or for that matter, all species) that potentially live there? Do they no have more rights than the priviledged few?
Stick to your guns...end the leases in 2017 and give back the land to the people and animals of Ontario.
