More Houses Won't Solve Any Problems. I am a concerned resident who lives in Southern Ontario and voted for the PCs last election. Evidence tells us that housing supply does not equal affordable housing, and opening up more space to developers encourages sprawl. Most of Canada's prime agricultural soils are also in Southern Ontario. It makes good business sense to protect those soils and ensure we have food sovereignty, particularly in light of trade tensions. Finally, protecting these lands, and the connectivity between them, helps to support biodiversity in this region that has benefits to humans in terms of health, environmental processes such as wetland water filtration, and climate change mitigation. I am hopeful that your government will keep key planning policies such as the Greenbelt Plan, Oak Ridges Moraine, and Niagara Escarpment intact and instead address issues such as severances, higher costs for aggregate licensing (perhaps introduce a sunset clause) - or refocus onto infrastructure and the need to improve our province-wide aging systems.
