RE: Bill 108: More Homes, More Choice Act (Planning Act and Development Charges)
The Swansea Area Ratepayers’ Association is very concerned about the short period of consultation time allowed this very extensive and wide-ranging Bill, and request that the process of consideration of Bill 108 be extended until at least the fall to permit further - and adequate – reflection and consultation.
We support the concerns raised separately by the City of Toronto, the Large Urban Mayors’ Caucus of Ontario, and many other organizations including other residents’ associations and environmental groups.
We are concerned especially with the potential loss of local input to planning decisions, the changes to the funding mechanisms for parklands and development benefits, the impact of funding changes on municipal governments - and question also whether blanket supply side stimulus of the housing sector will actually address the underlying problems of housing affordability in Toronto.
Please delay this bill until further study of its potential detrimental impacts is undertaken. More homes, more choices is not a goal worth pursuing at all costs.
Sincerely yours,
Swansea Area Ratepayers’ Association / Swansea Area Ratepayers’ Group
