Caribou management/protection should be focused for areas in Ontario that has current success in maintaining healthy caribou population. The linkage through the Discontinuous range is not an area that should be “managed with a focus on specific landscapes that may support temporary caribou occupancy or movement between the continuous range and Lake Superior”. There is no data suggesting that this linkage is being used or will be used in the future by caribou. The social economic impact to local communities needs to be taken into consideration. Below are my request:
1. MNRF to conduct an open and transparent study looking at the potential impact of wood supply before introducing new legislation
2. MNRF needs to take into consideration any social and economic impacts to local communities
3. MNRF to identify how road decommissioning of old roads will be financed.
The designer of the survey questions deliberately leads to a pre-determined outcome. I do not support the design of the survey and would seriously question the validity of any recommendations or future direction that would come as a result of this outreach effort.
