With the looming issue of climate change, every mature tree on this planet helps offset the carbon imbalance. Every tree sucks up water and helps prevent flooding. I live in Niagara, which has already suffered from two major flooding events in the last three years, at great expense to local taxpayers. Our province needs more trees, not less. Increasing, nay doubling, the cutting of woodlands would be a costly tragedy for Ontario citizens. Not to mention the wild inhabitants of the forest, many of which are already endangered. This doubling in logging intake will tip many of them over the brink into extinction. This increase in logging is not sustainable. The jobs being offered will not matter when the workers' homes are jeopardized by the impact of the loss of that may trees. We should be planting trees, not cutting them down. An increase in logging is shortsighted move, and this way of thinking needs to change. perhaps we could instead implement a new factory for turning plastic waste into viable building materials, and give people jobs this way? Please, please, do not implement this proposal. My grandchildren need a future. Our wildlife need a future. You need a future.
