Re: EBR Registry number 011-1300.
I am writing in response to the Ministry’s plan to extend the leases at Rondeau Provincial Park. As a lease holder at Rondeau I am of course in favour of a lease extension however I have concerns about the conditions currently under consideration. Specifically I would like the option of passing the cottage on to surviving children upon the death of the leaseholder. My grandparents started cottaging at Rondeau in the early 1930’s. The Park and our cottage are very much a part of our family life. Both our daughters were married at Rondeau. I am not interested in selling the lease. Our interest in the cottage has never been financial but I would like the tradition to continue and for my children and grandchildren to be able to return each year to our family’s summer home. If at some point there is no heir or if none of the heirs want to assume responsibility then I agree that the cottage should be removed (at the expense of the estate) and the lease terminated.
