I feel strongly about this…

I feel strongly about this recycling change.

Living in the North, we recently got these ginormous double bins - one side for cardboard and one side for plastics/metal/glass. I am very frustrated with the list of what can and cannot be recycled. My blue side is nearly always empty because up here only a small list of things can actually be recycled.

Now, I have heard that we don't have the facilities up here to make a bigger list but it seems to me that the solution is simple - BUILD A BETTER FACILITY!!!

I have also heard that if there is even one item (which I'm sure happens in a lot of houses) mistakenly put in the bin, it just gets thrown out anyway. I'm unsure if this is factual information. If it is, modifying the facility, if need be, and having human beings sorting thru the materials seems a win/win as it creates more jobs AND a better recycling program. People make mistakes when recycling. Tossing a Timmies cup in the bin or not taking the labels off a tin can, it happens. Lord knows I have thrown things in there that shouldn't be in there and as a working mom of 2, I definitely do not have the time to soak nd peel off the labels from every single item.

Having said ALL that, perhaps making things out of the same recyclable materials across the board is an option? Water bottles, food containers, dishes, cutlery, etc all made from the same plant-based compostible plastic. Like the purple straws at Booster Juice.

Just some food for thought. I'm onboard for this new plan, but maybe a few other ideas might work as well.
