I'm concerned about the impact of this new program on consumers. How will they be protected from excessive price increases to "recoup costs"? What additional work will they have to do - more sorting/separating, managing additional boxes, etc?
They will also likely end up paying for recyclables that they re-use (eg: glass or plastic jars and tubs) or dispose of otherwise (eg: newspapers used to start fires in fireplaces) while the supplier pockets the "recycling fee" and likely gets a tax break for their non-efforts. And somehow taxes paid by consumers never seem to go down, nor do they get a tax credit for the work they're doing.
I'd like to see information on how these issues, and others affecting end users, will be addressed. In theory, this is a great initiative. In practice, I greatly fear that consumers will suffer unless there are strict rules to protect them.
