The description of the proposal sounds enticing. Using inclusionary zoning for badly needed affordable housing is a great idea. However, I cannot help but notice that several of the MZO's that have caught the attention of the public lately have negative consequences. The paving over of the Duffin Creek wetlands is unacceptable for any reason, even though I understand in this case it has the approval of the local municipality. I expect that this will be the last term for the councilors that supported this initiative. Bypassing public consultation is unforgiveable. Then there is the Dominion Foundry site in Toronto. In this case, an MZO was used against the desires and intention of the city. We are seeing far to many MZO's being used to sanction projects with negative environmental impact. Why try to suppress public input? I am against this proposal. Let municipalities deal with their constituencies to approve projects. There is no need to fast track if it means avoiding public input and consultation. This is not just true for the Greenbelt, it is true for all land in Ontario.
