On behalf of the Chief and Council of Keewaywin First Nation in Northwestern Ontario, we recommend that the Northern Ontario Transportation Plan of 2021 include the plans for an all season road that will connect Keewaywin First Nation with the Ontario provincial highway network.
A Letter of Intent - RE: Northern Ontario's All-Weather Road
Please be advised that Keewaywin First Nation has renewed its efforts in securing an All-Weather road.
The on-set of Covid pandemic has clearly demonstrated the need for regular and safe transportation of goods and services on a 12-month a year basis to our remote communities.
Winter roads, including this year, continue to be unreliable and treacherous at the best of times.
A few years ago, Keewaywin had an extensive engineering plan prepared by KGS in Winnipeg. We have requested a copy of the formal engineering report and will present it once received
In addition, access to the road must be started in Keewaywin and travel southward so that it will be ready to be tied-in at the access point of Northern Ontario's all-weather road when constructed.
Looking forward to your response.
