The new program would benefit from having all inspectors trained on emissions controls after treatment systems. Currently, more seasoned inspectors have more knowledge than newer inspectors for determining visual faults in the emissions controls systems.
The MTO could create a certification process that would train all emissions inspectors in the field of emissions control systems so there would be no variation in the inspection process between emissions facilities.
This new enhanced certification would far outweigh the 310t certification that the MTO has proposed.
310t mechanics are in extreme demand as this skill trade has a huge shortage of available mechanics. This shortage has increased the pay of a 310T mechanic to over $40.00 per hour. This pay salary is not inline of what a seasoned emissions inspector would receive.
With a new enhanced emissions inspector certification this would help ensure there will always be enough people to perform emissions inspections as well as making Ontario a more attractive as a place to work for new immigrants and providing more opportunities to new Canadians. The proposed 310t requirement will drastically limit opportunities for hard working individuals in Ontario and should be reassessed.
