Please do not repeal the Climate Change and Low-Carbon Economy Act! The renewable energy sector and green initiatives are truly starting to take off in part because of the economic incentive of carbon tax like the cap and trade program. I truly believe we do not inherit this land from our ancestors but we borrow it from our children and grandchildren. Repealing this act and continuing to use fossil fuels are putting our children and grandchildren in danger. Air pollution is a growing problem along with environmental health and human health concerns. When I am old, I want to be able to enjoy nature and I want my children to be able to breathe clean air and see clear blue skies. If we continue to use fossil fuels, I will not be able to do that in 50 years.

Globally, this act and the cap and trade program are extremely important to helping Canada meet our Paris Climate Agreement goals. If we are able to meet our goals we will improve our international reputation and enhance relationships with other environmental leaderships. It also will inspire others to make the same changes for the benefit of the greater good.

From a longer term perspective, scientists have generally agreed that continuing to emit greenhouse gases that enhance the positive radiative forcing in the atmosphere will lead to a 2 degree Celsius increase in temperature. Scientists have also agreed that if this were to occur, there would be catastrophic damage (ocean currents could change!). Humans are altering this planet's systems so much, we are going to change it to an extent where we can no longer survive if we continue on this path of consumerism and short-term/individual gain. Repealing this act is the first step down of many that will bring our province back in time when people had the excuse of not knowing any better and/or not having another option. We now have the knowledge, materials, resources and people to make great changes and grow our economy sustainably! We just need the policy as support and as a reminder to us to stay on the path that plans for the long-term and thinks of the collective needs of us all-not individuals. We no longer have the excuse of ignorance. Please do the right thing for me, for you, for your children and for us all.
