As a young person in Ontario, I am very disappointed that the Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act, 2016 is being cancelled without a new plan ready to replace it. To limit the increase of global temperatures to well below 2 degrees Celsius, as agreed upon by nations in the Paris Agreement of 2015, all countries need to act immediately. It is irresponsible to future generations to cancel this plan without a new plan in place to effectively reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in Ontario. I would like the Climate Change Mitigation and Low-carbon Economy Act, 2016 to stay in place until the government has developed a new plan to replace it and it has gone through proper consultation.
I'm also concerned about how much it will cost the government to cancel the plan due to the amount of carbon credits that have already been sold. I would like to see a thorough investigation about the costs of cancelling the plan before a decision is made.
