I support the plan to increase affordable housing but I am strongly opposed to your plan to reduce the requirement of parkland a developer must provide. You are not forward thinking enough with this plan. You are creating an environment for future children that cannot be reversed. Living in a world of concrete is not healthy physically or emotionally. I am a strong supporter of the Ford government, but deeply disappointed with the lack of understanding for preserving land and protecting the environment. I am not a tree hugger, I am simply a person who values the serenity that comes from having mature trees and open space to clear the mind. Your focus on affordable housing is narrowly focused on supporting developers to meet the need. You are not considering supporting the many existing condo developed 30, 40 and 50 years ago that need infrastructure repairs. The maintenance fees are what makes these units now unaffordable and there should be thought put into salvaging these units, many that are on properties with significant land mass and mature trees. There is a huge cost to this government in subsidizes developers to create new units, when in fact, older buildings could benefit from investments from the government. There will still need to be an offset to the lost revenue from parkland dedication funds or development fees. If taxes are going to be raised anyways to cover this offset, then why not do that now, invest in existing structures, and keep people in their current homes. Be creative in this solution! You don't need to destroy our environment to meet your affordable housing needs. I ask you consider what you remember about your own childhood, and image what it would have been like for yourself to live in a world of concrete. Please look beyond the ten years you are currently dealing with and consider what you are creating long term.
