This proposal is poorly thought out and clearly not necessary. Ontario has enough land to develop and can significantly better use already developed land. The Greenbelt is meant to protect land, and the land was selected very deliberately - a simple swap is not as simple as it seems for the ecosystems that will be impacted. There is no evidence presented that shows that this is a necessary move for our province’s housing issues. Pretending to “swap land” where a lot of the “new” land is already protected in other ways is just silly. Please consider the environmental impacts more than the profits for developers, as there are other less harmful ways to solve these problems.
It’s not surprising that the same developers who contribute so significantly to the Ford campaign are the one who stand to benefit the most from this move, it is however extremely disappointing.
