I am opposed to the proposal to change the Greenbelt boundaries. I live in a city in Niagara that has so much empty land held by developers who choose not to build for the good of the city. There is no need to increase boundaries that would displace wildlife and nature. There is no need to pave over farmland and watersheds that cannot be replaced by moving protected land to another area in the province.
If government is serious about land development for the purpose of housing, all available space within city and town boundaries should be developed first. Land speculators should be taxed heavily, so they sell land to developers that actually build housing. As the population for Ontario grows, we will need farmland to feed our families, clean water and open spaces for our wellbeing.
