As a light duty drive clean inspector and repair technician I am not opposed to change but having a good look at the ins and outs of the program and how well it is working just seems a shame to shut it down. The 16% to 5-6% failure rate should just be a testimate to how well it is doing. That coupled with the new rules of the program which was just updated april 1st 2017(including no charge to the customer for initial test) would only better the fail%. Yes vehicles are built better but as soon as people don't have to worry about that check engine light we will be right back to where we were when the program started, A good portion of people will NOT repair there vehicles unless they absolutely have too. The drive clean program has also helped shape many small businesses (many of which have invested large sums of money in to the test equipment) and I hope that has been taken or will be taken in to consideration. I would also like to know the number or estimated number of possible jobs lost due to the changes in question. As for the heavy duty portion the testing seems to be fairly stringent already but I do like the idea of adding the computerized testing to the equation. In conclusion, not a huge fan of ending a program that is making a difference and employing many Ontarians to save a buck.
