I am against loosening the criteria by which Heritage properties are designated and maintained. I value the sense of history and beauty of properties that remind us of earlier times and the valuable contribution to our culture by people and events of the past. Heritage buildings and properties are valuable assets that support teaching of history to younger generations.... If we don't understand history, we don't understand ourselves! The presence of Heritage buildings and properties in our communities reinforce our awareness that valuable aspects of our ways of life are lost in the face of change, and that change isn't always progress. I believe we can provide for the current needs of our communities without erasing our history.
