I believe that climate change is a real problem that will have profound effects for the planet and our province. Now that the government has cut the cap and trade program (it was not perfect but it was better than nothing), it must quickly bring in a plan that is at least as strong as the cap and trade program if not stronger. I don't understand why the government thinks that climate change policy is bad for the economy of Ontario. We could be leaders in climate change policy and that would benefit the economy by opening new markets. Yes there will be a shift in the economy sectors which can be hard and scary but this will happen anyways and it is better to be ahead of the curve. The government should focus on regulating the top few polluting industries in Ontario plus put in measures to focus on the individuals such as the home efficient and hybrid cars. Also look to fund R&D for clean tech, hybrid cars, better batteries, etc. in the province. Look for R&D that will bring in good jobs over the long term. The province could also look at "easy and cheap" regulations that change individual behaviors like a provincial ban of plastic bags (as most major cities have done it already and I would guess no plastic bags are made in Ontario), support biking, move to cheaper Quebec hydro from coal, etc.
