I am strongly opposed to the amendment in Bill 162, which allow expropriation without environmental assessment and without proof that the expropriation in necessary, and I want Schedule 1 to be removed from Bill 162. In Waterloo Region expropriation of the farms of 7 families has been threatened. these are families who have farmed for many years, generations on this prime farmland and they deserve to know that there is an unavoidable reason why they should lose their homes, their family history, their social network and their livelihoods, just because some developers want the land. There are abandoned quarries and other lands in this Region which are much more appropriate for development.
The residents of Waterloo Region deserve to know through environmental assessment that development on this land will not threaten our water supply or increase GG emissions by putting many more commuting cars and transport trucks on our local roads.
I am strongly opposed to Schedule 5 of this Bill, which restricts carbon pricing programs. Such measures must not be decided by referendum, but by scientific evidence that the measure is effective in preserving our environment and a livable climate for future generations. Remove Schedule 5 from this Bill.
I am strongly opposed to the amendments which authorize urban boundary expansions. The Regional plan of Waterloo Region and other Regions in Ontario have been developed with years of environmental and population growth research and planning by experts to determine needed development and these Regional plans must be respected for their expertise. Remove Schedule 3 from this Bill
