I have a couple ponds on my property and trap minnows for my own fishing needs as they are better quality than expensive bait store minnows. There are only dace, mud minnows and sticklebacks in the pond. Lire davantage

Catching minnows for personal use in ponds and small creeks in southern Ontario that are not directly connected to the great lakes systems would be very low risk for invasive species contamination and therefore should be allowed to be transported to local lakes and rivers. Lire davantage

The St. Joseph Island Hunters and Anglers are pleased to see the bait policy moving forward. We do however have a few concerns with the movement and retention of bait from the Islands. Lire davantage

The proposed bait restrictions are insane. Most of the bodies of water where I fish are connected anyways. I don't see any problem with the way the regulations are now. How can a group of people who sit in an office in Peterborough make decisions about anything to do with angling and hunting. Lire davantage

I do not support this change for several reasons, as a whole I think it is placing unnecessary inconveniences on anglers, which are already supporting and promoting environmental initiatives. These inconveniences I believe could make it harder on the working class to fish. Lire davantage

First off, I am in favour of generally restricting the movement of bait and the "general" intent of the proposed changes in this draft policy. But common sense was clearly lacking when proposing the following: Lire davantage

The intended requirement to keep baitfish trapped in a creek continually submerged in the creek water while transporting said baitfish to the same body of water the creek empties into is ludicrous and in many cases impossible. If that isn't the intent, correct the language. Lire davantage

Just another government regulation conceived to generate more tax dollars(permits every two weeks) waste resources (Destroy up to 10 dozen minnows every two weeks) at a cost of at least $50(if purchased).....by the way when did these minnows start being born with best before dates. Lire davantage

The requirement to dispose of bait every 2 weeks is ridiculous. I am only able to fish on weekends (and only on a Saturday). If I go ice fishing for perch, and get a scoop of minnows at the access point, I end up with approximately 4 dozen minnows. I never use even close to that. Lire davantage

As a fisherman/ hunter/ trapper, in northern Ontario to be told after all these years that I need another licence to harvest personal bait fish, is just another money grab for our MNR. Lire davantage

Many anglers use rainbow spawn as bait in the form of roe bags. This practice results in the death of many female Steelhead simply for the roe, a practice that diminishes the population. Lire davantage

I buy some and harvest some of my minnows , all from the same waterways , I can't believe that in northern ont we are punished for what happens in the south . Lire davantage

I'm a recreational angler and find these changes further complicate baitfishing regulations. These zones and exceptions, including overland transport in some areas just muddle an already confusing matter. Lire davantage

I am an avid fisherman. The vast majority of my fishing is done on Long Lake (Robillard, Kinogami and Kushog Lakes) which is classified as a Waterway Provincial Park. As part of the bait fish and leech management proposal, all live bait will be banned. Lire davantage

I fell like the ban on all use of minnows & leeches in provincial parks is a lazy way of controlling and reducing the risk of invasive species and disease. In some areas where it is considered a provincial park and able to fish, this law does not make any sense. Lire davantage

I am in favour of leaving the bait usage/harvesting laws much the same as they are now - while I understand that the wholesale baitfish industry is large and generates much money for a few, anglers should remain allowed to catch baitfish as they do now for their own use. Lire davantage

(1)Sometimes I fish with a spinner and a worm. Other times I fish with a spinner and a "Salty". It should be made clear from the outset what "Bait" means. Does it mean all bait alive and dead. Does it refer only to minnows? Lire davantage
