NO. Plain & simple, as an avid outdoorsman with small children, this is a TERRIBLE idea.

First of all I am not opposed to hunting. But I do enjoy hiking and canoeing which include using portage trails. I object strongly to the proposal to reduce the minimum distance requirement for bait placement. This will endanger trail users by luring bears closer to trails. Lire davantage

The idea that bear bait should be allowed only 30 metres from places where I may be hiking or picking berries seems extremely reckless. Surely protection of citizens is most important! What could the rationale for this change be?

As a bear outfitter I support the change from 200m to 30m. 30m is plenty, for the safety of people and hunters alike. At 30m’s people with limited mobility can still enjoy the hunt and access a bait site. We thank you, Minister

Honorable Minister of Natural Resources, I am writing in regards to the newest Ontario black bear hunting regulations, specifically a newly added requirement that all baits be placed at least 200 metres from any public right of way. As per page 75 of the Ontario hunting regulations book. Lire davantage

A 2 hundred meter requirement is crazy something FAR less makes more sense. Old logging roads and two track.......who cares. Highways, blacktop and winter maintained roads would be fine. Seasonal roads should not be an issue,

In my 18 years experience as a lodge owner and bear baiter, placing bait 30 meters from a road or trail is MUCH more reasonable that the current 200 meter regulation. Lire davantage

This proposal is not viable. Placing bait next to recreational trails puts recreational users at risk of injury by creating areas of human / wildlife conflict. It’s bad enough that snares are allowed along recreational trails but this is even more dangerous. Lire davantage

This proposal will put local residents, including children, and pets at significant risk. It will create a public safety hazard by allowing the discharge of firearms closer to public spaces and increase human-bear conflicts. I am vehemently opposed to this proposal. Lire davantage

I am incredibly disappointed that we are not only encouraging the killing of bears but also placing people in danger. Animals and people can co-exist but this plan puts both at risk. It is irresponsible and disheartening. Please stop ruining what. Makes this province amazing.

The regulation to reduce the distance i support. Bear hunters know what actually constitutes a trail that is used regularly by humans and avoid them. The definition of trail and right of ways is so broad that the distance restriction as it is written is illogical and simply hard to enforce. Lire davantage

Please don't do this. We don't need more bears near roads. Keep the bait farther away so the bears stay off the roads.

Re ERO 019-0022. Absolutely not!! Not only will this put more humans trying to enjoy our beautuful province wilderness, it also is cruel and cowardly to bait animals. Please ban bear baiting all together!

If I'm walking a trail with my 3 year old son, there is no way in I want a hunter placing black bear bait 30m away from the trail, or where I park my car with my family.

I oppose this proposal. It's short-sighted and pandering. 1. Baiting bears to within 30 metres of recreational trails is dangerous for other users of those trails. 2. Baiting bears at such choose ranges to recreational trails is dangerous to dogs using those trails. Lire davantage

What problem is the the proposal solving? It clearly increases danger to the public, so that hunting is easier. Not a good trade-off. It brings bears and people shooting guns much closer to many many taxpayers, while easing the lives of a few hunters.
