I am a father, son and husband that drives a car, rides my bicycle and votes. The recent announcement by the Ford government to eliminate bike lanes and restrict their implementation is unbelievable. Lire davantage

Toronto’s bike lanes and bike share system draws visitors from the 905 region and beyond, enhancing the city’s status as a leading tourism destination in the province. Cycling infrastructure not only improves the visitor experience but also provides a significant boost to local businesses. Lire davantage

Bike lanes are vital to supporting local economies. For example, the Bloor BIA saw a rise in revenue after bike lanes were added, demonstrating their positive effect on small businesses by drawing more cyclists and foot traffic. Lire davantage

I think this is a gross overreach of the provincial government and I will certainly not vote for any government who thinks it is their job to tell municipalities what to do with bike lanes. We are in a climate crisis - we need more ways to promote travelling by bike and transit not fewer Lire davantage

As a commuter using many modes of transportation - car, cycle, transit and foot - I would urge the province to back off on legislation that unilaterally reverses thoughtful - and local - public consultation processes and arbitrarily removes bike lanes without supporting data to guide such actions. Municipalities typically have the most direct understanding of local transportation needs and community priorities. This proposal could introduce additional layers of bureaucracy that might delay the timely implementation of bicycle infrastructure. Lire davantage

The idea of removing bike lanes in the middle of a climate crisis is absolutely backwards and nonsensical. In Toronto, where I live, my and my neighbours' taxes have gone towards implementation of these bike lanes, of which there should be more, not fewer. Lire davantage

I drive daily in Toronto on University Ave. Removing bike lanes is not a smart move. Invest in transit instead.

Bike lanes and bicycle riders neither increase gridlock nor do they save time. The measure of efficiency for any given road is properly "number of people " not "number of cars". Lire davantage

Requiring Ministry approval could cause delays in projects, raising costs for municipalities and discouraging smaller jurisdictions from investing in cycling infrastructure. Lire davantage

The proposed "transition" provision, which allows ongoing projects to proceed, is a positive development. However, providing more clarity on the specific criteria the Ministry will use to assess applications and the regulatory processes involved would help municipalities plan more effectively. There is no need for highway 413. Buy back the 407 and the problem is solved. Make all highways toll highways, but at a manageable cost.

As a cyclist and a voter who believes in sustainable transportation I would like to express my concern about the proposed change to bike lanes in Ontario. I believe that the proposed changes I step backwards and that as a province we must expand bike lanes not reduce. Lire davantage
