I strongly oppose this changes. Despite being myself an avid hunter, including bear hunting, I know very well that bear hunters are among biggest forest contaminators. Every spring they bring into the woods metal and plastic drums, buckets and other packaging plastic material. Read more

While I support the rights of Ontarians to hunt black bears, the reduction of minimum bait placement from rights of way and trails is a potential safety hazard. Read more

The Ford government's proposed reduction to the minimum distance for placing bear bait should not be allowed. Currently, the distance for baiting black bears from a public roadway or public trail is 200 metres. It should remain at 200 metres. Read more

There is an important distinction to be made between hunters and shooters. I do not consider shooting an animal that has been lured to within reach of an easy hit to be hunting. It is unsportsmanlike and unethical. If a person is to hunt a bear for sport, he or she should track it. Read more

I am not a hunter but do spend a lot of recreational time on trails and in the bush. I cannot think of one possible reason why the government would ever consider allowing bear baiting to be anything less than 200 metres from a road or trail. Read more

I support the distance reduction from 200 m to 30m. I have enjoyed bear hunting over bait for most of my adult life. I am 60 years old now and am concerned that I won't be able to continue for much longer due to the physical strain multiple trips of carrying bait the required 200m entails. Read more

The Ford govt. wants to allow sport hunters to bait black bears only 30 meters from a public road way and public trail. This literally means that sport hunters can shoot black bears from the road while sitting in their trucks !!! Read more

"I object, the wilderness of Ontario is used by many who prefer not to cause damage. The bears are not dangerous, hiking, and recreating near where bear hunting happens is dangerous. Ontario better not allow this change to take place."
