This proposal from Ontario is not just a misguided approach to managing traffic; it illustrates a glaring hypocrisy in the government's commitment to reducing gridlock while simultaneously erecting bureaucratic barriers that stifle the expansion of safe and effective bicycle infrastructure. Bike lanes are important for commuting for many people. We shouldn't assume that everybody has the funds to purchase motor vehicles. Having safe bike lanes as an option for transportation is very important for many people for full commutes, commutes to transit stations, and for recreational use. Read more

This transportation minister needs to focus on getting right what’s is in his own lane & what he has failed to address. Get the Metrolinx LRT systems up & operational! A government who claims to be safety cautious is blind to the facts of what the bike lanes provide! Read more

I believe this bill is extremely shortsighted. Removing bike lanes is not going to decrease vehicle congestion in the long run while the city continues to grow at the rate it is. Read more

I live near Bloor and The Kingsway, and I walk through The Kingsway daily. I rarely see congestion. Sure, there is congestion at rush hour, but there always has been and there always will be. Removing the bike lanes would only make it worse, and the bikes aren’t going anywhere. Read more

I don't want my tax dollars used to remove necessary infrastructure that makes roads safer for bikers and is a step in the direction of progress to making the city more bike accessible which is better for the environment as well as the health of residents. Find better solutions.

The Ontario government’s proposed legislation to remove and restrict bike lanes in Toronto raises important concerns about governance, resource allocation, and the future of urban mobility. Read more

I am worried about the removal of bike lanes in Ontario, and the introduction of more bureaucracy in the addition of new bike lanes. Climate change is happening and we need to reduce cars in our cities. Read more

I use bike lanes in my city, and it is my main transportation, and despite following rules in bike lanes, cars are overly aggressive to people in our area, and I see this decision going backwards. We have had three deaths in the last month for vehicle-person because we need infrastructure. Read more

This proposal doesn’t make any sense. To invest city money in removing infrastructure that currently exists to ensures the safety of both cyclists and cars from accidents- accidents this bill supposedly wants to avoid- feels like a waste of taxpayer money. Read more

I am writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 212, the "Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act." This bill's measures, particularly the proposed restrictions on bike lanes and the requirement for provincial approval for new lanes, would significantly hinder the growth of safe and sustainable Read more

This proposal is reversing hard fought progress to bring bike lanes and connected networks of bike lanes to our communities. Cars cause congestion, not bikes. Reducing traffic congestion is about giving people more transportation options, not fewer. Read more

The stated, abstract objective of this Act is to reduce “gridlock,” using means which are proven to be detrimental to public health and safety, mobility and access to Ontario communities for all people, environmental protection, and will aid in worsening the ongoing climate emergency. Read more

The premier’s at it again, attacking Toronto, where he lost the race for mayor in 2014 and where his party doesn’t even have a single MP (downtown anyway). Toronto has rejected him and yet he still seems to imagine that he’s the mayor and keeps on intervening in ways that’re very unwelcome. Read more

It is disingenuous of the Transportation Minister, and governing party, to quote such outdated usage statistics to justify such backwards, uninformed, and frankly incorrect action and overreach to remove or prevent bike lanes from being built in Ontario municipalities. Read more

I ask that the government reverse their decision to implement this act! Bike lanes actually help reduce traffic gridlock, imagine if all of those bike riders were on the street in cars instead. Read more
