Has it occurred to absolutely nobody in this government that protections for species at risk perhaps exist for a reason, and that their presence impeding construction is the system working precisely as intended? Here's a thought: don't do construction in species at risk habitat! Just don't! Read more

An updated legislative purpose that allows for decisions to be made in consideration of social and economic factors as well as species protection and conservation. COMMENT: these considerations are already made outside of the ESA, they dont need to be considered inside the ESA. Read more

To allow activities to occur without the proper approval of the ministry, and trusting organizations to correctly meet the requirements or say they are will only hurt the environment, defeating the point of the species preservation act. Read more

putting corporate profit ahead of natural preservation is a very ignorant and dumb move for all of Canada. This threatens biodiversity and only secures the idea that nature is for profit and not preservation of natural spaces. SHAME

I vehemently oppose these changes! I cannot believe this is being considered. We have seen time and time again that the conservative provincial government does not care about nature or the people of Ontario. Its priority is very clearly satisfying developers. Read more

The Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025 (Bill 5) is short-sighted and irresponsible. As an environmental biologist, it is with certainty that the proposed changes to the ESA would be devastating to our environment in a way that is irreversible.

This absolutely should not pass, it's a very thinly veiled attempt to ruin habitats before a clear assessment can be made, especially in the case of migratory animals, if the proposer finds forms "too difficult", it's clear they do not understand what is at risk, and should not be the ones making ch Read more

The proposed changes prioritize economic interests over ecological preservation. The shifts could significantly undermine the protection of endangered species. There's a heightened risk of harm to vulnerable species before safeguards are in place.
