I agree with the Hamilton Conservation Authority’s submission to the ERO. I am concerned about losing local decision-making and I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community. I would prefer to see the conservation authorities remain as they are.

I do not agree with the approach of this government to reduce the number of Conservation Authorities. This will, in my opinion reduce local influence in important decisions currently made by the existing Authorities. Read more

Please add my voice to those against the fusion of the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority with those in completely different watersheds, different geologies, different forests, different social-economic factors... The list goes on. Read more

The importance of local oversight and redundancy is key to protecting our watersheds, local wildlife, and natural resources. Restructuring the system that already works well to cover larger areas and have fewer conservation authorities goes against that very idea. Read more

We should be leaving the 36 locals as they are. Consolidating them in 7 government controlled agencies limits the amount of voices being heard and gives the Ontario government more access to implement their own agenda and bypass the conservation policies put in place to protect our greenbelt. Read more

As a retired project manager of Source Water Protection for Ausable Bayfield Maitland Valley, I feel the scale of this consolidation of conservation authorities will be just too unwieldy for staffing, communication, collaboration and municipal/customer/landowner servicing. Read more

I have worked with our local LTVCA on a number of occasions. Having that local connection with people knowledgeable about our area had been a great asset. I prefer that you retain the current structure of the conservation authorities, it’s working well. Read more

I am NOT in support of this merger of the regional conservation authorities! The Province has not provided evidence showing why the merger is needed. Local decision-making will be harder to maintain. There has been no funding plan made public to support the merger. Read more

ERO #025-1257 Combining into such large areas does not demonstrate an understanding of how unique each local area and habitat is. It takes too much of the local understanding and autonomy away. In the end it provides less protection for sensitive lands. Read more
