The proposed change will create a serious hazard for people who use hiking trails in the areas baited for bears. While the bait is present, it will attract bears to an area is close proximity to people and will increase the likelihood of bear/human contact. Read more

I strongly believe if the baiting is done in northern Ontario where the roads or trails are in the bush, not near any rural community where houses/residences are present then a distance of 30-50 metres is acceptable. Read more

Seems to be a southern Ontario scenario applied across the province. I do see the need for this type of rule where your bullet may cross on to your neighbors property. Read more

I appreciate the MNRF recognizing the and correcting this too restrictive regulation. I fully support reducing the distance bait can be placed from trails, roadways etc. The 200m put an exceptional burden on outfitters in time and effort involved in meeting our clients needs. Read more

Good call on shortening the distance from 200m down to 30m. It becomes very difficult in working with a bear outfitter in finding locations for, and then setting up bear bait sites at 200m. Read more

This proposal will result in a greater risk to human-bear conflict – the very thing the government first said the spring bear hunt was required to reduce. Read more

This is a horrible idea. If the cruelty of bear baiting and the spring hunt don’t concern you, the fact that the majority of voters in Ontario don’t hunt, should. This isn’t like the old days when it was acceptable to turn your back on animal abuse. Read more

I strongly oppose this proposal. There is nothing in this proposal that explains why baiting 200 metres away is unclear which was one of the main reasons that this change is being proposed. There is nothing in this proposal to rationalize why 30 metres is more clear. Read more

I highly oppose this proposal. Putting the general public’s safety at risk in order to make it easier for hunters is one of the most irresponsible things I’ve ever heard.

Baiting bears this close to roads and trails is very dangerous, especially if people are with dogs. A startled bear is unpredictably dangerous, and they will chase dogs right back to the owners. This is exceptionally unwise.

This proposal is dangerous to the general public. Hunting is becoming increasingly unacceptable in the opinion of the general public. Killing Black Bears from the road is the ultimate in trophy hunting. Read more

I am opposed to the proposal to allow sport hunters to bait black bears only 30 meters from a public road way and public trail. I am very concerned about the fact that sport hunters will be able to shoot black bears from the road, while sitting in their trucks. Read more
