You want to let Hunters put bear baits as close as 30 meters from the road ?????????

This definitely should not be allowed ! I’m completely against this ! What is the purpose to lure bears out to open n closer to public spaces to be hunted ! This is not fair game !
Finally something that makes sense coupled with best hunting practices. Of course, the Ontario Government/MNRF is still in the 1800's trying to manage a forest with little or no standing fiber left. And, if we allow hunting in a park it should be both spring and fall!
I object to this proposed change. The wilderness of Ontario is used by many who prefer not to cause damage. The bears are not dangerous, while hiking and enjoying the outdoors near where bear hunting happens is dangerous. Ontario better not allow this change to take place.

The only ones confused about rules around “distances from right of way” are hunters who desire to shoot bears from easier access points.
Hunting is no “sport” when baiting is involved. Bringing bear baits closer to public access areas, puts general users at greater risk for conflicts.

I think this change is ridiculous. I don’t believe “hunters” should use bait to lure the bears in the first place. If you want to be a hunter, then hunt! Don’t lure the animals to you so you can relax and shoot it. I call that murder!! There’s no hunt involved.

This makes absolutely no sense. You will be bringing bears and the hunters shooting at them closer to traffic and people! Bears could be driven into traffic and into the paths of hikers and hunters will be discharging firearms in close proximity as well. Why go from 200 metres down to 30 metres?

I feel like dumping attractants is a bad idea in the first place. It teaches animals to look for garbage and human food for consumption. It habituates animals and can attract domestic animals and encourage wandering. I feel it's a form of littering as well.

This bear baiting is beyond cruel. How fun is it to entice bears with food so you can shoot them. Hunting in this day and age when animals struggle to survive is ludicrous. Enticing bears closer to recreational areas is a recipe for disaster. I do not approve this.

I am opposed to this proposal and feel strongly that such activity puts people, pets, and wildlife in harms way. Non target animals are put at risk. I am opposed to the baiting and killing of black bears. They are a keystone species needlessly killer.

I think this is a good idea. I understand the distance with the houses and buildings. I know it is getting harder and harder to get people out because of their age. No one in their 60's want to walk in through a bush 200 meters to hunt a bear that may run another 200 meters further after a shot.

After many years without a spring bear hunt, it was great to see it come back. I am a tourist outfitter in Northwestern Ontario and we have a very healthy bear population in our area. The 200m from a road or trail has been very challenging to deal with.
