I am a licensed falconer in Maine where we are allowed to take wild raptors for use in falconry. We require apprentice falconers to trap their first hawk so that they best learn the basics of falconry and better understand the nature of raptors. Read more

I think this was be good for the birds. I they are captured and taught to hunt. They have better chances of surviving the wild when they are released due to the fact that they have been taught to hunt. Also the fact that they will be in protected from the wild for their early years. Read more

Falconry is vital. Allowing falconers to make the rules that govern their practice is also vital. No one cares more about birds of prey than falconers and they are all conservationists if the truth were known. Read more

I support Falconry in all its forms, including the taking of passage birds and the use of eyasses and captive-bred birds. There are many studies showing that there is no ill effect to the wild population and their use creates public awareness and therefore support for conservation. Read more

Expand the live capture of wild raptors by licensed falconers is a great idea! Falconers care for their birds, other raptors and the environment in general. Often when sick or injured birds are found, people turn to falconers to retrieve the animal and get them to a suitable rehabilitation center. Read more
