With bird populations in decline across North America, any proposal to allow expanded capture of wild raptors for falconry is just asinine. This practice should be ended not expanded.

As a licensed falconer who hasn’t been successful in the draw twice now I fully support this proposal as it will give more of us a better chance to

Let the wild raptors be free. We take enough from the environment. The only time they should be captured is if they are injured or unable to survive on their own.
I am submitting these comments to voice my objection to proposal # 019-1806 which if approved would increase the number of wild birds of prey (red tailed hawk, coopers hawk, sharp shinned hawk and Merlin) that can be captured per year from the 25 to potentially 200+.

I am adamantly opposed to this proposal. I have been an active observer of bird populations in Ontario for over 50 years. I have noted significantly declines in several of the raptor species included in this proposal - especially Northern Goshawk.

There are far fewer goshawks than the other 4 species. See no reason to proceed with this proposal. Am uneasy with the increased number that could be taken in the other 4 species.

As a formally licensed Falconer in Ontario and now a licensed Master Falconer in WA state. I have seen that there is no negative impact on the raptor populations with increasing the wild take.

I am strongly opposed to the proposal to live capture goshawks for use in falconry. This is a cruel practice and especially problematic for a species in decline.
