This proposal is ill advised. Do we really need to add to the list of wild birds that are tormented and abused for 200 Ontarions pleasure? What good comes from this at all? I fail to see how this anachronistic practice of falconry is an activity that merits support of any kind.

I support this proposal. It’s great for the hawks and it’s great for falconers. I love that a hawk can be trained to hunt during its first and most difficult year, and then be returned to the wild population once it is mature and able to breed.

These days most people involved in falconry do not need to use a bird to kill their food for them, and owning a raptor is a luxury, so the working animal argument is a stretch. This is a ludicrous proposal that needs to be stopped before it gets started.

People of Ontario are not to take plants from the wild, nor hold wildlife without being registered to rehabilitate. Stealing wildlife from their wild lives Is beyond reason.
Please do not allow more damage than the raptors can survive. Life is difficult enough.
I would like to thank the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry for the opportunity to comment on your proposal to expand and update access to wild raptors by licensed falconer, and to offer our enthusiastic support for your proposal.

I'm an active falconer here in Ontario and I believe Falconers have played an important role in raptor conservation, and by allowing more falconers to have access to wild birds, the MNRF is encouraging more active conservation and citizen science !!
I support the proposal to eliminate the draw and add the species of Northern Goshawk. I grew up in a falconry family, have been a falconry apprentice and still attend Falconry Association meet-ups and have never met a more dedicated group of people to conservation.

As an apprentice falconer I am very pleased to see the MNR proposal for wild take. This would be a huge improvement for falconry. Captive birds cannot be released back to the wild, so if my personal circumstances should change and can no longer keep the bird l would be able to release the bird.

As a falconer that spends as much time on conversation as hunting I find this a very important step. The access wild caught birds for the apprenticeship is critical to maintain the heritage of falconry.
Falconry is an important human cultural expression that builds empathy with the natural world.I support the measured expansion of the capture of wild birds as hunting companions for trained falconers.

My co-worker is an active Falconer. I strongly support and congratulate the MNR on this new proposal for wild take. This is the logical next step for take.
As a lifelong bird watcher and bird enthusiast, I fully support the proposed changes to increase the number of birds that falconers are allowed to take. In my local birding group we have 2 falconers and it is amazing the relationship they have with their birds.

I support this proposal because having more opportunities to utilize wild take will encourage more Falconers to become licensed through apprenticeship instead of buying a non-indigenous species.

73% of redtailed hawks alone die in there 1st year of life due to everything from electricution to being kicked out of their parents territory and not having the skills to survive.
