I am vehemently opposed to the use of MZOs. It is a blunt instrument that subverts democracy by preventing the public from engaging in the planning process. It is especially egregious when used to override protections for expediting the development of environmentally-sensitive lands. Read more

I would like you to removed Schedule 3 of Bill 257. I disagreed entirely with Schedule 6 of Bill 229 that you passed last year and which provoked the resignation of the entire Greenbelt Council. This new schedule is equally as destructive and for all the same reasons. Read more

If Schedule 3 becomes law, when a Minister’s Zoning Order is used to permit development, it will no longer have to be consistent with Ontario’s fundamental planning principles – set out in the Provincial Policy Statement (the "PPS"). Read more

MZO's should not be used to side-step community consultation and local planning policies. Minister’s Zoning Orders undermine public participation and circumvent the planning process. These have been rarely used in the past as they are considered a tool for only extraordinary cases. Read more

I think it is really slimy and unethical for the Ford Government to use the pandemic crisis to sneak in and change protections to our wetlands. Unscrupulous. And shows a real lack of concern for our wildlife and future generations. Read more
