Do not extend. MECP's work is not to continuously figure out ways to get out of the way. Their work is vital for public health and safety, and the environment, without any of which it would be hard to enjoy life in Ontario. Read more

Reading the lists of threatened species brings home the very reminders of the mess we are making of this province as well as this planet. Is the article about the danger to the bats due only to the financial benefit they provide or is the humane factor included? Read more

Please protect the bats from the wind turbines. Please consider building the turbines in a way that doesn’t harm the bats, nor bother them with noise. It should not matter how rare an animal is to protect them, the animals should be protected for their own sake.

I am a bat biologist from western Canada. I am encouraged to see the inclusion of mitigation to reduce bat mortalities, however, it looks like monitoring is not required for the common approach. How will you know if it is effective and whether additional mitigation is needed without monitoring? Read more

Changing cut in speeds is absolutely necessary to reduce the impacts to bats. However, more studies are needed to test changes in turbine cut-in speed among different sizes and types of turbines, wind regimes and habitat conditions before custom approaches can be assessed. Read more

We are in a biodiversity crisis. Humanity depends on the web of life to support our existence. Continual chipping away at the habitat of other species leads to their decline - think of it as a housing crisis for other species. Read more

Bat-curtailment practices are nuanced and rely on precise and clear language to achieve intended outcomes. Therefore, we suggest that guidance more clearly reference industry standard language on curtailment, cut-in speeds, and minimization techniques. This includes: Read more
