The health of this river cannot be an afterthought or a casualty of rushed design work. The proponent is asking for permission to discharge treated wastewater into a small, sensitive watercourse that already experiences low flows and seasonal stress.

As a S-4 Sewer plant operator for 26 years I must tell you wastewater effluent into the Goulais River will eventually kill the Brook trout population.

An expert that reviewed the design brief noted that plant operations will play a major role in performance. The way the facility is operated and maintained by the owner and their contracted wastewater operator will directly influence effluent quality.

There has to be a better and less invasive way to treat and dispose of waste water. Treating does not remove all contaminants like prescription medication’s. I have grown up swimming and fishing in the Goulais River.
