I am wary of the changes proposed to the boundaries. Too little is spent on our care for the environment at present. I worry the provincial government will further erode the powers and increasingly limit the role and influence of the conservation authority with these boundary changes. Read more

Bad idea in every way, regardless of political stripe, to merge Northwestern Ontario's Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) with other very far away conservation authorities to create the proposed Huron-Superior Regional Conservation Authority boundary that would absorb LRCA authority.

Clumping regions in the proposed way takes away the important local knowledge that each small area allows. Conservation should be kept small in direct actions to allow for specialized treatment according to the areas needs. Read more

The amalgamation of conservation authorities(CAs) is not supportive of protecting the environment as cutting funding usually only stretches resources which in turn reduces effectiveness of what an organization is trying to do. Read more

I agree 100% with the combing of the authorities. There will be opposition by those who benefit from their attendance at these redundant meetings. I have attended and they are nothing more than hot air and we are paying for this. Read more

I would like to register my deep concern about this proposal. I do not think it's necessary to amalgamate CAs into a smaller number of them, and I do not believe that it will improve front-line service delivery to better serve communities. Read more

I, Holly, resident of Thunder Bay, am OPPOSED to the Province’s proposed amalgamation of the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) with six other Southern Ontario Conservation Authorities to form the “Huron-Superior Regional Conservation Authority”. Read more

I agree with this proposal whole heartedly. I have seen first hand incredible inefficiencies and bureaucracy at the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority compared to dealing with other areas and recreational user groups. There is bloating in administration and no consistencey. Read more

I am simultaneously depressed and outraged by this proposal. For a government led by a man known for shady land dealings and corruption, this centralization of CA's is an absolute erosion of citizen representation and our ability to advocate at the local level for our soil and water. Read more

The proposal to amalgamate Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities risks undermining the very strengths that make them effective: their deep knowledge of local ecosystems, long-standing community relationships, and ability to tailor programs to the unique environmental challenges of their watersheds. This is wrong. This will only help builders and not the environment, which is what conservation is primarily for. This amalgamation concept will only create confusion as there seems to be no set plan being put into place. Read more

Consolidating tools and resources - great idea! Consolidating THIRTY-SIX conservation regions into SEVEN - less so. I live in Prince Edward county and Quinte Conservation already covers such a vast & ecologically diverse area with so few people. Read more

I am very skeptical of the intent of this proposal and do not support the amalgamation of the current Conservation Authorities nor the setting up of another provincial level bureaucratic organization to dictate to local Conservation authorities. Read more

I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario and this proposal is illogical considering we are 1500 miles away from the proposed government agencies that would be in charge of our Natural Resources. They don't have a clue what the Northern part of Ontario needs or goes through. Read more
