The Ministry of Mines is seeking feedback on its proposed approach to regulating the recovery of minerals from tailings and other mine wastes in Ontario. This approach would be captured in a new regulation under the Mining Act, allowing Sections 152.1-152.7 of the Mining Act to come into force.
We reviewed responses received and have implemented our regulation proposals to amend the Mine Development and Closure Regulation, and the Mining Claims Regulation and revoke the Conversion of Legacy Claims Regulation.

The proposed amendments to the Mining Act allow the Minister in special circumstances to provide blanket exclusions of time or extensions of time for assessment work and allow for the Minister to annul the forfeiture of a boundary claim.

The recently passed Moving Ontarians More Safely Act, 2021 (MOMS Act) will help protect people and families by targeting stunt driving and unsafe, high-risk driving as well as to protect vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and highway workers, improve commercial vehicle safety, and strengthen oversight of the towing and storage sectors.

A decision has been made to enact the Planning Statute Law Amendment Act, 2023, which would help ensure that official plan decisions support our goal of building at least 1.5 million homes in a manner that maintains and reinforces public trust.
The government has made changes to the Planning Act so that zoning orders are not subject to the legislative requirement to be consistent with the Provincial Policy Statement.
Ontario has made changes to the Planning Act, City of Toronto Act, 2006 and Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing Act to support increasing housing supply and streamlining planning processes.

To address the need for better affordable housing choices, the Promoting Affordable Housing Act, 2016 proposed amendments to the Planning Act that would enable municipalities to use inclusionary zoning through the land-use planning system. Based on input received on this proposal, matters were considered for regulatory proposals.
We proceeded with the conversion regulation which, as of April 10, 2018, the conversion date, converted all existing mining claims to new digital cell claims and boundary claims, and proceeded with the general regulation amendment and the revocation of the forms regulation as proposed.
We have made regulations and taken related actions to move Ontario to a project list approach under the Environmental Assessment Act. Projects that require a comprehensive environmental assessment are now set out in regulation.
