The Ministry is seeking feedback on proposed projects in South Simcoe to support housing and job growth. Ten projects are identified for provincial coordination aligned with existing/planned infrastructure. This does not indicate a decision. Remaining projects form part of the consultation and will inform municipal and provincial planning.
To help support expanded access to lower carbon energy sources from Ontario’s electricity grid, we have aligned our thresholds that determine which transmission lines require an individual environmental assessment with thresholds used by the Federal government for international electrical transmission lines.
We are implementing regulatory changes related to the management of excess construction soil and redevelopment of brownfield sites. These changes will reduce soil management costs and promote brownfields redevelopment, while protecting human health and the environment.
To support the implementation of the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024, the Ministry is seeking feedback on a further revised draft Projection Methodology Guideline to assist planning authorities with identifying population and employment forecasts and assessing land needs. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing has amended the Greenbelt Area boundary regulation (O. Reg 59/05) to add 13 new Urban River Valley areas and lands in the Paris Galt Moraine in Wellington County and remove 15 areas of land.
We have released a revised study area related to the Northwest GTA Transmission Corridor Identification Study. The study is ongoing, and we will continue to consider the comments received as we move forward with subsequent study milestones.
The Ministry of Mines is ready to proceed with the rehabilitation of the former Long Lake Gold Mine. Project planning is being carried out in accordance with the Class Environmental Assessment for Activities of the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines under the Mining Act (Class Environmental Assessment).

Ontario has finalized changes to O. Reg. 153/04 (Records of Site Condition) to allow qualified engineers and geoscientists to exercise professional judgment, in limited circumstances, to determine the need for ground water sampling prior to redeveloping on former commercial or industrial lands, also known as brownfields.
