We made changes to the Environmental Assessment Act through Bill 108, More Homes, More Choice Act, 2019. These changes help the ministry to modernize by focusing on projects that pose actual, real risks to our environment and communities.

The minister has issued an overall benefit permit to 1108991 Ontario Inc. for the development of a subdivision which will impact Eastern Flowering Dogwood, a species at risk tree. The permit includes actions to benefit the species, minimize adverse effects, and outlines monitoring and reporting requirements.

On December 4, the Affordable Energy Act, 2024 received Royal Assent, enabling the Ministry of Energy and Electrification (the ministry) to develop Ontario’s first Integrated Energy Plan, make it cost-effective to connect to the electricity grid, help reduce energy use to save money, and support the growth of Electric Vehicle adoption in Ontario.

This Advanced Wood Construction Action Plan has been revised and approved following a review of comments and feedback received through the Environmental Registry of Ontario.

A decision was made to proceed with implementing enhancements to the points-based moose tag allocation process. These changes will encourage hunters to only apply for the tags they intend to claim and make available certain unclaimed and unawarded tags.

Ontario Parks has amended the Devil’s Glen Provincial Park Management Plan and has added 18 hectares (ha) of acquired land to the park. The approved management plan will protect nature and biodiversity, while also allowing for ecologically sustainable outdoor recreation to occur.

The Minister has issued an overall benefit permit to the Ministry of Transportation for the construction of a new interchange in the Township of Puslinch, which will impact Eastern Small-Footed Myotis, Little Brown Myotis and Tri-colored Bat. The permit includes actions to benefit the species and minimize adverse effects.

The minister has issued an overall benefit permit to Enbridge Gas Inc. for the construction of a natural gas pipeline that may impact Butler’s Gartersnake, which is a species at risk. The permit includes actions to benefit the species, minimize adverse effects, and outlines monitoring and reporting requirements.

On December 20, 2024, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing revoked Ontario Regulation (O. Reg.) 337/22. The Ministry of Infrastructure requested that the Minister consider revoking the regulation.

We released our Low-Carbon Hydrogen Strategy for Ontario, informed by feedback received on the "Ontario Low-Carbon Hydrogen Strategy" discussion paper and the Hydrogen Strategy Working Group.

Bayview Hospitality Holdings Ltd. has withdrawn its application for a residential development on Campeau Drive in Ottawa, Ontario that would have impacted Butternut and its habitat. As a result, no permit has been issued.
