I and many of my friends, family and neighbours are struggling with the idea that the Ontario government would cancel carbon cap and trade. This policy had endowed the Ontario treasury with billions of dollars. Cancelling a billion dollar gift is hard to justify. Following that, the government then terminated many very worthwhile programs, insisting that the decision would save taxpayers money. How could the end of a $3000.00 program save us money, but terminating the influx of billions doesn't cost us anything?
I began with the financial approach as that seems to be a priority for the Conservatives. However, there is a much more crucial angle to environmental policy.
Recently we heard, as confirmation of previous knowledge, that we are about to destroy our one and only home, planet Earth. This came together with the idea that, if we act quickly and firmly, there is a chance of saving ourselves. When we elect a government, the entire idea is that those in elected positions act to improve the lives of every single person within their jurisdiction. At the moment, the policy that you are proposing would most definitely not prevent our early demise, but would actually hasten our death. Was the campaign slogan not "For the People"? Which people were you referring to? If humans are suffering and dying horrible deaths, they [we] are going to continue to wonder about what you could possibly have meant.
Green energy is the way of the future. With a focus on green sources, we invite corporations to invest in Ontario, creating jobs, new infrastructure, more money circulating in the economy.
We resent the Conservative government wasting money on filing or defending lawsuits against climate policies (Tesla, Greenpeace, Federal Government) along with all the other costly legal action that is taking place.
Our environment is critically struggling. There are warning signs everywhere. Please help to save us, please consider the future of not only Ontario, but all life everywhere. Please take a stand for life on Earth. Please.
