An open house for the Algoma…

An open house for the Algoma Steel EAF Mill upgrade was held at Sault Ste Marie Marconi Center on Wed. October 23, 2024. Exhibits are available online. The clause in the attached document stating, "Algoma has the flexibility to operate a blast furnace depending on economics," seemed concerningly nebulous. I confirmed with an Algoma official present for questions that the blast furnace will not be shut down post EAF completion, as reported in a Soo Today article from 29/10/2024, but be on standby in the event it is deemed needed. Perhaps there are restrictions already established that regulate what those economics would relate, be it logistical or simply increasing production to meet larger contracts.

This seems a matter to have clearly defined and further implemented if necessary, sooner than later.
