The Algoma Steel Corporation…

The Algoma Steel Corporation has functioned under special environmental exceptions for too long. The effects of the chemical and air pollution produced by the industry can be seen in the St. Mary's river, but more importantly the city's cancer rates.

I do not believe the Algoma Steel Corporation should be granted special exceptions to allow them to continue to pollute while small business, ex. Body shops, paint shops, have the Ministry of Environment visiting and demanding adherence to the standards set by the government.

Despite the company's promise that the ARC furnace will be cleaner, they can not be trusted. The Algoma Steel Corporation has been allowed to neglect paying city taxes, neglect their own safety standards and clearly neglect the environmental impacts of their production.

Please consider the families who live in Sault Ste Marie, consider their health, their quality of life and consider the environmental effects on the future on the city, and future generations.
