General comment: Your questions are very biased in favour of a polluting fuel that threatens life on Earth as we know it by driving the climate crisis. These questions ignore completely the need for net zero GHG emissions within decades. Natural disasters have reached epic proportions in recent years, driven by GHG emissions.
1. Principles re gas connections: a) that fossil gas is a pollutant b) that a private gas giant like Enbridge should NOT be able to charge current customers to subsidize new customers -- i.e. new customers should have to pay for new connections.
2. Natural gas should not be used for space and water heating because there are much better alternatives, e.g. heat pumps.
3. There cannot be a rational expansion of natural gas growth in our communities. Expansion of fossil gas is irrational because it is a highly destructive greenhouse gas -- 80 times more potent than C02 in a period of 20 years.
4. The government should NOT make taxpayers subsidize fossil gas. You want lower taxes? Then STOP SUBSIDIZING POLLUTING FORMS OF ENERGY.
5. Fossil gas expansion and resiliency are oxymorons. Security only comes from getting GHGs under control.
6. Recent research has shown that fossil gas is as bad as coal. Therefore expansion of fossil gas should be out of the question.
The Ontario Clean Air Alliance has done lots of research, I will provide a link to just one of their publications: https://www.cleanairalliance.org/going-in-the-wrong-direction-ontarios-…
In conclusion, the Ontario government's promotion of fossil gas is bad for the economy, bad for our health, bad for our children and bad for us poor taxpayers. People want their taxes to pay for better health care, better education, and a more secure future for their children -- they do not want their taxes going to prop up Enbridge and fossil gas.
