This entire development is a mistake. We do not need a foreign, privately owned development in a prime location on our waterfront. Anything that affects the water temperature and quality will be detrimental to a recovering environment. The amount of waste and sewage being pumped into our drinking and swimming water is a disaster. Anything that cuts community members off from what should be public land is a mistake. A few yards of public picnic area is no substitute. Digging down into the bedrock for a parking facility, when there are already too many cars downtown, is a huge mistake.
The worst part of this plan is the pretend public consultation: the people of Toronto have come to realize that although we object to the actions of the provincial government and its private developer supporters, we will not be listened to. We are shown that our opinions are worthless to Queens Park because their base, outside the city, feels the same contempt for us as the government does.
So, I register my objections with a heavy heart. I hate this plan. I hate the idea that two of my happy childhood memories, Ontario Place and the Science Centre, have been destroyed for no other reason than profit by people who already have more resources than they need and absolutely no inclination to use those resources for the public good.
