It is unclear how the custom approach to wind mitigation will lead to similar results (for bats) as the blanket 7 m/s cut in speed. When reviewing the wildlife reports during the years following the application of the smart curtailment, what triggers changes to the program? Are there thresholds? Is there an out clause that makes companies abandon the smart curtailment approach and just use the 7 m/s curtailment?
Do companies that apply the common approach not need to do wildlife surveys? What are your measures of success? Are you certain 7 m/s is enough?
Are deterrents an option for the custom approach, or is it just custom curtailment schedules? If so, is there a list of acceptable deterrents that would align with the goals of this program?
Overall, I think this is a positive step in the management of endangered bats in Ontario, I just hope it is enough.
