I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed changes that would weaken protections for endangered species in Ontario to facilitate development.
Ontario’s natural heritage is one of our province’s greatest assets, and the Endangered Species Act exists to ensure that vulnerable plants and animals are preserved for future generations. Removing or reducing the protections these species rely on — in favor of short-term development interests — is not only irresponsible but short-sighted. Once a species is lost, it cannot be replaced.
Healthy ecosystems are essential not only for wildlife but for human health, economic prosperity, and climate resilience. Sacrificing endangered species protections puts all of these at risk. I urge the government to uphold the current standards under the Endangered Species Act and to prioritize sustainable, responsible development that does not come at the cost of irreplaceable biodiversity.
I respectfully ask that you reject any proposals that would erode protections for endangered species and instead strengthen Ontario’s leadership in environmental stewardship.
Thank you for considering my comments
