As an independent member of the community - no ties to archaeology, an immigrant and thankful for the protection of indigenous history thus far, I am appalled with the proposed changes to the legislation. The voices of the people are being shut, just to give an even bigger place for the voices of developers. The price is paid by indigenous communities and citizens alike, just so developers get to pocket more money.
The housing shortage is not going to be resolved by foregoing archaeological study, since I really doubt that it significantly slows the process down in the first place.

A bright and positive future cannot be built by erasing and suppressing the past of indigenous communities…again. We need to do better!
