I am submitting comments regarding the proposed amendments to the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act, 2023.
I am strongly opposed to Schedule 8 of the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025, which would exempt all projects connected to the Ontario Place redevelopment (including any activity or enterprise that supports the Ontario Place Redevelopment Project outside the Ontario Place site itself) from Part II of the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993.
Part II of the Environmental Bill of Rights clearly establishes “minimum levels of public participation that must be met before the Government of Ontario makes decisions on certain kinds of environmentally significant proposals for policies, Acts, regulations and instruments.” Schedule 8 would entirely remove public participation from the process and eliminate the requirement to inform the public about environmentally significant activities tied to Ontario Place.
This amendment appears designed to serve private sector interests, and it does not align with the public good or the protection of our environment. I urge the Government of Ontario to withdraw Schedule 8 from the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025.
