I’m writing to share my strong opposition to the proposed amendments to the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act, 2023—specifically Schedule 8 of the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025.
Schedule 8 would exempt all projects connected to the Ontario Place redevelopment—including any off-site activities—from Part II of the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993. This part of the Bill guarantees minimum levels of public participation before the Government of Ontario can move forward with decisions that have environmental significance.
By removing this requirement, Schedule 8 would shut out the public from having any input on environmentally significant actions related to Ontario Place. It would also prevent people from even being informed about what’s happening. That’s completely unacceptable.
This amendment seems designed to serve private interests, not the public or the environment. I urge the Government of Ontario to remove Schedule 8 from the Protect Ontario by Unleashing Our Economy Act, 2025.
